Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)

Description:

  • Dietary supplement; water-soluble vitamin

Indications:

  • Vitamin B2 deficiency

    • cellular growth and cytochrome P-450 function

Contraindications:

  • Avoid intravenous administration unless unavoidable. 

  • Administer SQ or IM

  • If IV must be used give very slowly

Precautions:

  • Pregnancy category A

  • Vitamin B2 deficiency seldom occurs.

Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

Relatively non-toxic in therapeutic doses

May cause a yellow-orange discoloration of the urine

Dosage:

  • Dietary sources: meats, poultry, fish, enriched grains, and cereals, green vegetables

  • Administered orally (tablets)

  • Dietary supplementation (RDA: recommended daily allowance):

    • Adult males: 1.7mg per day

    • Adults females: 1.3mg per day
